Great day for Jules, I think. IHOP for breakfast, mall with Mom for a shopping spree, presents from Sophia, Matt & Dad after that, an art class to look forward to in a couple weeks & ice cream sandwiches as the perfect ending this evening (her choice, instead of cake).

(Julianna was cuddling with Joe, and saying good night to us)

Me: Okay, Jules, time to head for bed now.
Joe: Yup, and be nice to Soph! (teasing) I know it's hard for you to be good and all. I mean, Christmas is over.
Me: Heck, she wasn't even good DURING Christmas!
(Julianna laughs)
Me: But now you have to watch out for Birthday Santa, he's not as understanding.
Julianna: What? There's no such thing.
Me: Sure there is! We're going to put up the Birthday Tree this weekend.
Julianna: Stop it.
(Joe & I start singing You better watch out, Birthday Santa's coming to town)
Julianna: There's NO such THING as BIRTHDAY SANTA!
Me: Oh, man. Now NONE of us are going to get presents.
(Joe is now guffawing)
Julianna: I know you're really Santa anyhow.
Me: What?!
Julianna: Birthday Santa, I mean.
Me: I was gonna say.
Me: Okay, really time for bed now...
Joe: Yeah, you know, because Birthday Santa's watching.
Julianna: THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS BIRTHDAY SANTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. The shrieks of joy from the kids when they realized that the real surprises from Santa were actually in the basement.

2. The snow flurries that started while we were in the middle of opening presents - that we noticed when Bing Crosby's White Christmas happened to be playing softly in the background.

3. This conversation with Julianna:

Julianna: Hey, this looks like YOUR handwriting, Mom!
Me: Hm...I don't know what you're talking about.
Julianna: Do you do this EVERY year??
Me: Well...you know I help Santa! I told you that last year.
Julianna: Mom. Do you eat Santa's cookies???
Me: Maaaaaaaybe...?
Julianna: MOM!
(I'm fairly certain she knows that we = Santa and we won't get away with anything at all next year...lol)

4. The fantastic late lunch we had at Blue Pearl Buffet.

8. The general atmosphere of "happy" that was all over our house today.

9. Sophia's answer of, "The little dollhouse furniture, because I just love the dollhouse so much." - when I asked the kids what their favorite gifts were today.

10. The impromptu puppet show we got, about 3 minutes after the puppet theater was discovered.

And many more great moments. Such a fun Christmas.

Ironically, when we released our balloons this past October, I was pregnant again, and didn't know yet.

Next October, we'll be jotting down December 11 and hanging a tag on another balloon, and letting another piece of us float away.

One of the things I'm doing, since it's Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/54678913@N02/

Flowers for August is meant to be half gallery, and half a way to give something of meaning to a mom (parent) who has lost a baby or pregnancy. Each month has a specific flower, just like each month has a birthstone. My goal is to make a site/place where a mom can come look through the flowers, and maybe find one that gives at least a small element of comfort in the midst of such a difficult and heartbreaking ordeal. Having a gladiolus "portrait" on my walls, alongside my other children doesn't take away the pain of losing our baby, but it gives us something that we can call "Baby August".
This is still a work in progress, and will be an ongoing project. December is not yet up there, because the birth flowers for that month aren't in season, unfortunately.

Anyone can "order" a photo, either one of the ones already posted, or a request for a specific flower. The photos can have dates on them or not, and are easy to customize. I put order in quotes because I don't intend to ever charge for the photos connected with this project.
I'm also working with one or two other people to make care packages for moms (and dads) going through the loss of a pregnancy or baby.

On a related note, my friend Ashley & I released balloons today, for her June baby, and my August baby.
